Finds: 1958 Flying Saucer Review

Among the hundreds of UFO, paranormal and cryptid books I have, this hardcover edition of The Flying Saucer Review's World Roundup of UFO Sightings and Events, Brinsley Le Poer Trench editor, 1958.

Among the sightings in the book, a UFO seen in Oregon in August of 1958. It was described as "A spectacular green fireball in a hurry ..." seen in Portland, OR and all along the west coast.

A Little X-Files Musing

Binging on all the X-Files episodes, from beginning to end. Of course I had already seen them all, at least once, if not a few times. But this time around, I realized that, among other factors , X-Files was a great love story between Mulder and Scully. Adult, mature, romantic and sexy all at once. Over time. Deep friendship within the love. So excellent. Still in my top five best ever paranormal TV shows.

I also was reminded that the episodes with Robert Patrick, who "replaced" David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, was excellent in his own right. Patrick's presence didn't do any harm and The X-Files was just as excellent. Of course, I do hold a special affection for Mulder and Scully.

My Top Paranormal Themed TV Shows:

The Outer Limits (original)

The Twilight Zone (original)

The X-Files

Millenium

Legion

Resident Alien

Fringe

And I know there are more but my post. Christmas head space can't get there right now.

Please Support the UFOlogy Tarot Campaign on Kickstarter - The Daily Grail

Please Support the UFOlogy Tarot Campaign on Kickstarter - The Daily Grail

I'm excited about this idea! Greg Bishop and RPJ (Red Pill Junkie) have collaborated on a tarot card project -- a UFO Tarot deck.

If you can, donate to the cause.

I often use the Tarot to help in discovering clues to my UFO experiences. Various decks. (The most interesting one being the Deviant Moon deck.) So a deck created specifically to address the UFO experience, well, pretty creative.

Mixed Media : "Night City Orbs"

Yes, as always, orange orbs on the brain.

I call this "Night City Orbs." 11" by 14" on board.

This is a mixed media piece. I collaged newspaper to a gesso background, then sand papered the surface, leaving some of the paper. Then I applied in thin washes acrylic and metallics.

I'm a Fan Girl: American Horror Story, Double Feature

Yes, that's Mamie (Sarah Paulson) and Valiant Thor (Cody Fern) getting it on.

I’ve been a fan of American Horror Story since its beginning. There were a couple of seasons I didn’t care for. But overall, oh it is a great show! I love the revolving cast, the stories, the direction, the credits, the acting, everything.

And they surpassed themselves with the second half of this year’s program: Double Feature

I loved the first half, which had a family retreating to the east coast so the husband could work on his writing, and then . . . vampires and such. Excellent. But the best, the best, was the second half. UFOs! From Eisenhower to Nixon. Not just "the grays" but more than one alien race. Glowing eyes and exploding heads. Pink caftans. And Valiant Thor! Yes!

From the black and white to color, depending on the era, to Valiant Thor in the Whitehouse, to Mamie Einsenhower's  glorious pink caftan, brilliant. (Pink was Mamie’s favorite color.)

I’m not going to get into discussing the “truth” of things because, after all, when it comes to aliens and ETs and UFOs, no one knows “the truth.” This is also a television program for entertainment. It’s not a documentary. But the writers who did the research for this season obviously had a good awareness of the UFO realm, and went with it. Sure it’s speculation and what ifs but it’s really good speculation and what ifs. It’s a throw back to classic sci-fi stuff.

Blips in UFO Land: Attacks On Travis Walton

I find it an odd juxtaposition, this current 'debunking' of Travis Walton, along with the hoopla over the gov. release of info regarding UFOs. Er, sorry. I mean UAPs. (snark.) I have long believed Walton, and I only met him once, very briefly, but both my husband and I were struck by his "vibe" -- he seemed absolutley geniune, and also, a bit haunted. Meaning, quite obviously, his experience changed him for ever. And even if (a big IF) Walton is full of it, that doesn't erase any of the other incredibly strange experiences people have had, all over the world, for centuries. (Including me, my experiences go back to childhood.)

But that aside, it's odd that on the one hand in this moment of the popular culture, people are embracing the Pentagon's stance on UFOs UAPs - and attacking Walton at the same time. Not that the same people are doing both. Maybe the former caused the latter.

Two Pieces: Mothy Owl and Reptilians in the Classroom

The other day, I posted about my failure regarding a piece I was working on about the orange orb. (You know, that orange orb.)

But I also feel pretty good about other pieces, including these two, that have a slight weirdness vibe.

Like this one: "Mothy Owl" collage, paper and watercolor on canvas board.

Black Eyes, Blue Orb, Violent Reptilian

Two strange dreams last night. Oddly enough, I had not taken any melatonin, which can certainly cause some deeply surreal dreams. Nor did I listen to any paranormal podcast or Coast to Coast, which I often do when in bed. The subconscious works in its own language for sure.

At night, a couple dozen people. Some kind of party -- more like a celebration, or an observance of something. A rite, an homage, a recognition. We either eat or drink something psychedelic. Not exactly that; more like this substance enhances in a way what’s already within. There is a beach ball sized globe, or orb, solid, physical but also made of light. Hard to explain. It’s a light blue color. We pass it around, balance it, play with it. Dance with it.

Someone has the orb now. There is a deep and intense connection here between me/this someone and the orb. Everyone else stands back. They know the orb has chosen its person.

The person is in rapture. Holds onto the orb, talks in tongues, falls down onto the ground. On his back, this person is holding up the orb, signing, talking in a strange language. Purple lights appear and swirl around him. Then he turns into a violet reptilian type being, with huge black eyes. I lean into this being and stare into those eyes. Nothing on this earth has ever been as black as the black of its eyes. Huge deep glossy black eyes.

There is nothing malevolent about this but it is terribly  profound. True awe. I cannot believe this blackness, this never ending sea of dark. I am sort of screaming out about this -- wanting others to look, to pay attention to this. These eyes, this black it’s so damn important!

In the dream, I tell myself I have to remember this and write it down right away. The urgency is vibrating, I must get this down! I’m writing this dream down and Jim comes in to talk to me about something. I tell him to go away, I have to get this dream down immediately! Later, I tell him about the dream. And then it starts over again: the violet, the purple, the huge black eyes, the reptilian, the blue orb, the chanting and dancing . . .

Same night, different dream:

I’m in an empty room on the tenth floor of a building -- office building? -- built in the 1950s, maybe 1940s. dingy, frayed carpets, not many people about. I don’t know why I’m here. I look down into the street. Thousands of people, literally nose to nose. No room to move. Yet move they do. Crawling, scrambling, shoving, climbing on each others. Violence. People fighting. Something bout gas. Some force is stealing gas. I stay up here because I sure as hell don’t want any of that! A few people come into the building but they stay on the first few floors. Once they realize it’s an empty building (except for me or a few others in the upper floors) they leave.

After a few hours of this madness, two gigantic mothership UFOs appear overhead. They lift up two huge silver domes. Domes that have been covering the city. The aliens or beings or whoever, whatever, they are, put the domes in place to disguise their presence while they sucked up all the gasoline in the city. Once they filled their own tanks, they lifted the domes and left. Once they left, everyone was back to normal. No memory of what just happened.

This second dream doesn't make much sense to me, since, on the west coast, a lack of gasoline has not been an issue.

Fuzzy Puppet Wolves

A new drawing, trying to recreate what I called "fuzzy puppet wolves" -- entities that visited me when I was a child.

Fuzzy Puppet Wolf Entities, ink pen on paper, Regan Lee 2021

I wrote this piece about a childhood memory for my Trickster Realm’s column at Tim Binnall’s Binnall of America back in 2007.

I had to be in bed, flat on my back. Concentrate on the warm yellow light shining under the bedroom door. Then “they” came, several of them, oh, at least four, and somewhere I was levitated, floating through the doors.

I don’t remember what they looked like, or if I ever knew. I do “know” they were small, about my size. Skinny too, not human, like us.

Sometime around age thirteen or so these episodes became less frequent. As I wrote recently on my blog, it was rare when I could intentionally cause these episodes, and when they happened spontaneously, they became scary. I’d often shut down before I could leave my body.

Another event that happened frequently was the “puppet wolves,” visitations, as I called them. These events were connected somehow with the above, but also different. They weren’t the same creatures, for example. It wasn’t quite as pleasant either. And I remember some events happening during the day; still in bed, but daytime.

The fuzzy puppet wolves were very small, not more than about twenty-four inches tall. They were fuzzy/furry, gray, and reminded me of puppets. They weren’t exactly malevolent, but they were quick to be extremely mischievous, pushy, and just not as “nice” as the others. I could see these guys, and remember to this day what they looked like. The other guys, I don’t remember at all, except that they were small. The puppet wolves would gather around my bed, several of them, and they were insistent. They didn’t take no for an answer, and I’d have to go with them. I don’t remember anything other than that.

Not long ago, my husband “Joe” and I were talking about our childhood “weird” experiences; memories of the paranormal, or whatever word you want to use. Before I said anything, he began to tell me of something that happened to him sometimes when he was a kid. While he was in bed, furry gray “things” would gather around the edges of the bed, and tug at him, taking him away. (Neither of us remember where we went.)

I asked him if they reminded him in a way, of wolves; he said yes. Small nasty little wolf puppet, or stuffed animal-toy beings. He had never heard my story before.

Another Synchronicty between us. When faced with all these parallel experiences, going back deep into childhood, I find that I can’t ignore things like karma, or metaphysical connections, or reincarnation, or. . . something. I’m not sure what it means, but to say it doesn’t mean anything is supremely incorrect.

The Wolf as Totem

I refer to these nasty little beings as “wolves” yet they didn’t hold the wolf spirit. In fact, the wolf is my totem, and the Wolf Clan is one of the clans of the Lenepe, my grandfather’s tribe. (So I’m told.) I’ve had amazing dreams of wolves; often in connection with white wolves and teachers. I call upon Wolf often and he is my friend and guide.

But at the time, a child unfamiliar with the gift of Wolf and all its meanings, I tended to think of these persistent unpleasant creatures as wolves.

Puppet Symbology and Invisibility

It’s interesting that I thought of these beings as puppets; that is, puppets without any people operating them. They were just empty moving “skins.” They were footless, too, no legs. A screen memory, a false impression to cover whatever was “really” there? Puppet implies that something else is behind it; that the puppet isn’t doing the thing, the person operating the puppet is in control. Whatever was behind the wolf puppets was not revealed. Or, remembered.

Invisible Aliens

In looking back over a lot of what I’ve written about aliens and odd experiences, I realize I use the term “invisible alien” a lot. I don’t recall what they looked like, these beings that came to float me out doors at night. I don’t remember parts of UFO sightings I’ve had; missing time. Whether these are connected or not I don’t know.

There are many layers to these kind of experiences, and I suspect symbols replace symbols that replace yet other symbols, all to make us more comfortable, to protect us, — or us to protect ourselves — as we try to exist in the mundane world. Our journeys into the astral/other worlds remain submerged in our subconscious. It’s been so for a very long time, as has our need to go down and retrieve these memories. Retrieve the correct memories. With each “dive” into our subconscious, we move closer to some kind of understanding.

(for example, I wrote that I had to concentrate on the yellow light underneath the bedroom door. I told my mother about these experiences, and she insisted that there was never a light on in the hall after we went to bed. I asked her, then, what light was it that I was seeing? she had no idea.)

Was my memory of the light a true one of the hall light, and it is my mother that is incorrect? Or is my mother right, and my memory of the hall light a cover memory for a very different kind of light, from a very different source?

I wonder if I’ll ever know.

Recently, I was interviewed on Barbara Fisher's excellent podcast Six Degrees of John Keel. It was so much fun! We talked about many things, including tarot. As I said on the podcast, The Fool is my favorite tarot card.

Of course, we also talked about orange orbs and all manner of weirdness.

Fisher and her co-host Morganna were fantastic hosts and I was honored to be on their program.

While you're over on the site, check out Fisher's art. I love her art; the use of mixed media, her vibrant colors, and her overall style.

THE FOOL, from Barbara Moore's Wonderland Tarot

I recently bought this deck. There are a few decks out there with Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass themes. This deck was created by Barbara Moore.

The Fool, from the Diamond Tarot

This deck is a Rider-Waite-Coleman deck but with vivid colors and psychedelic, colorful borders around each card. The deck is out of print and hard to find, and expensive! I've seen the deck offered at $300.00 and more. But I found the deck on eBay for about $30.00 after months of diligent watching. Today however, I saw the deck priced at $20.00.

The Dreaming Mind: Reincarnation, UFOs

 Evidence for reincarnation?

Now and then, I dream that I'm in France. Often centuries ago, 1600s? And the "me" in the dream is younger, and blonde. I don' have a particular thing about France; I don't have French ancestry (I'm pretty much 100% Celtic, as white as one can be) and I'm not young, or blonde. There's often a circus, pageant type feel to the dream. Sometimes there's a show going on, like a jousting match, or some kind of performance. It's all mixed up with royalty and death and escapes.

1947 Sergio Leone Film

In this dream, I'm watching a film but, as dreams will do, it quickly changes view and is really happening and I am in the film. The film is one made in 1947, directed by Sergio Leone, the Italian spaghetti western director. I think to myself, when I see the date, "1947, that's a year before Jim (my spouse) was born, and seven years before I was born. " For some reason that struck me as odd.

Scene One

The actress Joan Davis, tall, wearing a tight fighting man's suit like a flamenco dancer's costume, walks slowly and silently across the sandy floor of the circus. She is not at all the funny woman she is known for -- she is deadly serious, and silent. She is sometimes mistaken for a mute. Her hair is dark brown, in little twisty braids, a scarf covering part of her head. John Gilbert is in front of her, leading her. It's clear he is in control of her; she is a slave, imprisoned. The emcee is Claude Rains, dressed in black top hat, cape and a walking stick. He too is in control. Things are not good. Something bad is going to happen.

Scene Two

Joan/me escape. Not sure how it happened but with the help of Liam Neeson, (and I think in the dream how could Liam Neeson be in a film made in 1947?) I escape and we have to hide out in a loft above the circus tent.

When I woke up I just knew this had something to do with the past. A past life, related to the dreams of France, etc.? Senses and emotions are the dream rulers, not logic. Actors from long ago, one from not long ago, and a comedian in a role utterly opposite what she was known for.

Dream Two: UFOs; It's Ours!

Yes, I dream of UFOs a lot. And here's one more:

Night, outside with a lot of people. The stars are beautiful, so many! Watching a star get bigger, closer, rotating and zooming towards us. Then it stops, above us in the sky. No longer a star but large light blue heptagon with round depressions all around it. Somehow, I can touch this thing. I push against the depressions. Nothing happens. People are excited thinking it's a UFO from outer space -- theirs, not ours. But somehow I know this isn't "theirs" (aliens) it's ours. Man made. I just know it. Something to do with the depressions in this oddly shaped thing. People argue with me; insist that it is an alien craft. Meanwhile, all kinds of UFOs of different shapes, colors and sizes are appearing around us, but no on notices them. I try to tell them that they have to look and they'll see UFOs that do belong to aliens, but this one that I'm touching? Not alien at all, but man made. No one believes me.

Podcast: Exploring the Bizarre with Tim Beckley and Tim R. Swartz

Fun conversation with Tim Beckley and Tim Swartz last night. Thanks guys! Time went by too quickly, didn't get around to Bigfoot! We discussed orbs, mainly, so much more to discover.

Beckley is one of the very few out there who just really knows all kinds of UFO and paranormal history. I mean the tidbits and out there stuff. All of it. Pretty keen.

A Synchronicity Diamond UFO Memory

Many years ago, I saw a diamond shaped UFO.

I was in bed, curtains open. Looking at the night sky. It was around midnight. I'd been looking through the window off and on for what seemed hours -- couldn't get to sleep. Suddenly I noticed what I assumed was a star, or planet, very very bright. Aside from its brightness, it seemed not only larger than a typical star, but shaped differently. I got out of bed to look out the window. Yes, this sparkling brilliant 'star' was diamond shaped. It was always turning. In place, stationary, but revolving. Around and around. Spinning. I watched it closely. I wanted to make sure I wasn't just seeing the normal effect (autokinetic effect) -- that perception that stars are moving. But it wasn't that, because it wasn't a star or planet. It wasn't there at all, then, it was. It was much larger and brighter than a star or planet. It truly was moving in place; spinning. I look at the sky all the time, and I would have noticed the appearance during the night of any bright star or planet in that place.

I watched it for what seemed like hours. Spinning in place. Large. Bright. Not moving across the sky.

A few days later, I was at the home of a woman who did my nails. She was very interested in UFOs, and had seen a few in her life. She told me that she had noticed a strange light in the sky recently, and proceeded to describe the diamond shaped light I saw.

It didn't come back. If it had been a star, it would have made more than one appearance in the sky.

Lanterns and Orbs

Discussion going on over at UFO Updates, started by Chris Rutkowski. Question posed concerns Chinese lanterns and orange orbs; how often are lanterns interpreted by witness as UFOs and not merely something everyday, like a man made object?

I posted my two cents. Once you've seen Chinese lanterns in the sky, there's no doubt that that's exactly what they are. For a brief moment, there's an "Oh, what IS that?!" and then, you realize, oh, just lanterns. Not a UFO or something truly mysterious.

I've seen these sky lanterns, and while at first look for about four seconds it's hard to say what they are, it soon becomes obvious they're just lanterns. Nothing close to the orange orb I saw years ago. Not similar in shape, certainly not in behavior, or effects. (missing time, dreams of ships and aliens.) Or size.

There seem to be several varieties of orange orbs:

  • Small points of light in the sky that are orange. These may move about but seem to stay relatively the same size and in the same area of the sky. Sometimes more than one orange orb appears.
  • Ball lighting, and or plasma. These two explanations don't really explain much -- basically a label given to a phenomena we don't fully understand yet. These orbs, which can be orange at times, can appear very close to the witness, indoors as well as out. Related post: UFOs, Orbs, and Luminosities.
  • Orange Orbs -- like the one I saw -- that are very large. From a distance of approximately one mile, as I took a guess-estimate at -- the size of a beach ball. Seems to move as if controlled by something intelligent, either within the orb itself or outside. Lit from within. An object (as compared to plasma) that seems aware of the witness. Psychic communication between witness and orb. Follows witness. Missing time sometimes associated with sighting. (as with myself.)

From Interstellar Housewife: Dimensional Wrinkles

Deirdre O'Lavery asks a not so new question but one we don't think of often enough: what if UFOs ("true UFOs" as she puts it) are from other dimensions, and what we see is only part of those UFOs?
"Consider that UFOs (the truly unexplained kind, mind you) are not of this dimension. You’ve probably heard some of this before, the idea that UFOs are not extraterrestrial, but extra-dimensional, although this isn’t really about that speculation as much as it's about a possible explanation for the seemingly simplistic shapes we see darting around our skies."
Deirdre's post reminded me of one UFO I saw years ago that morphed in color and shape when viewed through binoculars, but remained a bright white light when seen with the naked eye. The shifting colors and shapes were not due scintillation; this was precise and obvious behavior of the UFO, which was quite close to us. There's more to this sighting: I "knew" we were going to see a UFO that night when we arrived at the house where we were visiting friends, I "knew" the person who had been looking out the window for some time was watching a UFO (and I was getting very impatient with her, wondering when the hell she was going to let us in on it), one person in our party became downright angry at the fact we were watching this thing; he walked away in disgust and wouldn't look. The UFO came from a distance away, but steadily came towards us, the house, until it came between a large tree and the picture window of the house. It seemed to come in close as if saying "hi," and then, after it passed by the window, it curved back and made its way back. We watched it until we couldn't see it any more.

James Rich, Dance of the Elements, acrylic on wonder-board

As I said, when seen with the naked eye, it looked like a round bright white light. Through binoculars, it changed both shape: square, rectangle, triangle, oval, and back again, as well as color: turquoise, red, orange, yellow, blue, green. (I don't remember the order of the shapes or colors, but I do remember the vividness of both.) There was a rhythm to the changes; they were constant, not randomly timed.

That night, I had a dream where I'm standing on the sidewalk by my childhood home with the owner of the house where we saw this shape shifting UFO. (I did not know this person when I was a kid.) We are looking up in the sky together, and we see several of these UFOs above us. This time we can easily see them change shape and color, no binoculars needed. Also, they were very large, much larger than the one seen at his house. This person was an artist, and the UFOs had something to do with art. The dream message was very clear about that.

Was this changing UFO related to what Deirdre proposes? If from another dimension, is it also possible the UFO was cognizant, or responding in some way, to some of us? The fact that I knew, with unshakable certainty, we would see a UFO that night -- was that also an aspect of this UFO's connection to us, or, us to it?

A Dream, the Moon, Thoughts and Batsquatch

Strange night last night, odd morning...

Well, there was UFO Hunters (and Monster Quest) and that's always fun. While watching UFO Hunters I was doodling, over and over again, dark, contoured orbs radiating energy type beams, bridges, and more orbs. Hmmm.

Then went to sleep, had a dream of UFOs and aliens (the latter unseen, as usual) and it was very uncomfortable. Not pleasant. I wasn't scared, but it wasn't a good feeling dream in any way. Suddenly at around 3:30 in the morning, I just woke up. Woke up, wide awake, and I looked directly out the bedroom window to see a bright, huge, round white light just beaming into the window. This scared the hell out of me for about two seconds, until I realized it was the moon.

Still, I was feeling creep ed out, and irrationally mad at that moon, as if the whole thing -- whatever "whole thing" it is I mean -- was responsible.

Here's the poem of sorts, a of stream of consciousness, almost automatic writing, which I wouldn't actually do. Just images, memories, coming quick and without thought, throwing out clues or quilt blocks to see what might emerge, if anything. Which would all be terribly subjective and highly interpretative but if it's looked at like art, an abstract work, the artist recedes as the viewer participates, . . .

I woke up this morning very tired, mostly it was my body that felt tired, I ached all over and couldn't figure it out, I hadn't been doing anything that would make me so achy. I log on and find an e-mail from someone with a report of a "Batsquatch" in my area, along with his disturbing idea of typing up a live lamb to use a bait in order to capture this creature. You can read about that on Frame 352.

An uneasy bit of synchronicity in this email from the man wanting to use live bait; for Monster Quest annoyed me last night, with it's two fishermen who used live bait to get a look at muskies. The bait they used wasn't a worm, it was a large fish itself. It was the complete lack of respect and gratitude, of awareness, of what they were doing, and the way they were choosing to use that life, that bothered me. MQ had done this before; using the gratuitous killing of animals, in their giant hog episode.

The End of the World As We Know It by Daniel Wojcik

NOTE: this wasn't done by Wojick; someone else did this and put it up on Youtube about Wojick's book. I have no idea if Prof. Wojick has seen this or not.

Well, this is a neat find. I was a student of folklore Professor Dan Wojick, author of this book, and my little contribution was to share my UFO library with him, for which he kindly acknowledged me in his credits. Professor Wojick is also very interested in Marian apparitions, (though I don't know or not if he shares my views on UFOs and Marian apparitions.) He was a great professor, his classes were all very enjoyable but more importantly, took a risk and addressed aspects of both folklore and Fortean type phenomena that not too many academics do.

Wojick is also interested in folkart, including folkart that has to do with UFOs, aliens, etc. Send images his way if you have any and are so inclined, or send them to me and I'll forward them.

New Blog: "UFO-Mary"

I know, I probably need help, but I have a new blog: UFO Mary. Not the best title, but I wanted something that would say it's about Marian Apparitions in non-religious context and a Fortean, Paranormal UFO context.
